ENCOT is a social impact MFI that works to alleviate the plight of the poor by enabling access to affordable financial services. Reaching out to poor rural farmer communities has many challenges that need synergy from different players. HIVOS - HIVOS is a Dutch international development organization guided by humanist values. HIVOS’ work is geared towards a free, fair and sustainable world – where both women and men – have equal access to opportunities and resources for development and can participate actively and equally in decision-making processes that determine their lives, their society and their future. HIVOS is a major funder of ENCOT’s strategic plan 2012 – 2016. HIVOS has already extended a seed capital grant support of up to EUR 320,000 in the last three years to enable ENCOT attend to various institutional and on-lending capacity issues. GCAMF - Founded in Luxembourg by Crédit Agricole SA, a French retail bank, and Grameen Trust, a nonprofit microfinance organization affiliated with Grameen Bank of Bangladesh. Grameen Credit Agricole Microfinance Foundation (GCAMF) provides financial services to microfinance institutions (MFIs) and social business projects in the world. In July 2014 ENCOT signed a 3 years EUR 302,300 Technical Assistance (TA) and Loan Funding agreement with GCAMF. This support package has boost ENCOT’s on-lending capacity and provided an array of key organizational development solutions in; financial reporting, risk management, MIS, processes re-engineering, corporate governance, and social performance management.
aBi Trust - The Agricultural Business Initiative Trust (aBi) is a multi-donor entity jointly founded by the Governments of Denmark and Uganda and other Development Partners. The Trust supports agribusiness development in the private sector in Uganda. ENCOT has been in partnership with aBi Trust since 2012. Partnership with aBi Trust has been along an array of Capacity Issues ranging; most especially in the area of product development, staff training, branch network expansion (Hoima and Kibaale Branch), and critical on-lending capacity support through provision of a line of credit (Whole sale fund). http://abitrust.com/
Habitat For Humanity Uganda (HFHU) – HFHU is an affiliate of Habitat For Humanity international. In 2010/2011 HFHU supported ENCOT with the Financial Literacy project in the districts of Masindi and Kiryandongo. This was followed up with the Housing Microloan Product development process. In Dec 2013 HFHU provided ENCOT line of credit worth UGX 300,000,000 to enable boost the organization’s on-lending capacity in Home improvement Loans. www.habitat.ug
Oikocredit – is a worldwide cooperative and social investor, providing funding to the microfinance sector, fair trade organizations, cooperatives and small to medium enterprises. ENCOT has partnered with Oikocredit Since 2014 as a credit line recipient. This has enabled ENCOT reach out to more farmer communities in the region. www.oikocredit.org
Stromme Microfinance East Africa Limited (SMF EA Ltd) - Operating in the greater East Africa Region, SMF EA Ltd works to alleviate poverty through microfinance interventions. ENCOT has been partnering with SMF EA Ltd since 2014 through a wholesale fund facility and capacity building. www.stromme.org
KRC - Kabarole Research and Resource Center (KRC) is a well-established NGO operating in the Rwenzori Region of Western Uganda. Founded in 1996, with a research mission and a long-term commitment to understanding the measures and drivers of poverty and its solutions, KRC has accumulated substantial experience in research and created numerous development programs based on community analyses of the activities which would be most helpful in achieving sustainable and equitable socio-economic development. In a bi-lateral arrangement (2013 – 2016) facilitated by HIVOS, KRC and ENCOT have a embarked on a project that seek to improve household incomes of small holder farmers in Bunyoro region involved in the rice, beans and maize value chains through developing and strengthening inter linkages between sustainable production, collective marketing and access to financial services in ENCOT areas of operation. http://www.krcuganda.org/
AMFIU – ENCOT is an active and fully registered member of AMFIU. As an umbrella organisation, AMFIU provides capacity building support to its members along key themes. In 2013 AMFIU provided Technical Support to through PESS Limited to enable ENCOT streamline and mainstream its Social Performance objectives, and perfect its reporting to the MIX. Further support worth UGX 28,578,000 was provided to ENCOT in the year under review to facilitate the annual PPI survey 2013. http://www.amfiu.org.ug/
Friends Consult (FC) – FC is the firm retained by HIVOS to provided oversight technical assistance to ENCOT and monitors the Seed Grant provided by HIVOS. FC is home to some of the best microfinance consultants in Uganda and ENCOT has greatly benefitted from this expertise. In 2013 FC provided TA to ENCOT in the development of the Renewable Energy Loan product. The product was tested among the rural folks and the feedback shows a great need for renewable energy products ranging most especially solar, cook stoves and bio-gas units for home use. The product was rolled out in 2014 and has received favorable commitment from various stakeholders. www.friendsconsult.co.ug
MSCL - The Microfinance Support Centre Limited (MSC) is Government owned whole sale lender. The Microfinance Support Centre Ltd is one of the lead agencies in the implementation of government “Prosperity for All” (PFA) programme in Uganda. PFA aims at transforming the rural economy through job creation and increase in household incomes. One of the pillars of PFA is Rural Financial Services (RFS). The overall objective of RFS is to develop a financial infrastructure at Sub County level. ENCOT has been a partner with MSCL in RFS since 2009 accessing on-lending funds to enable poor households in the region access microfinance services. www.msc.co.ug
Enclude: is an advisory firm dedicated to building more sustainable businesses and institutions by offering the integrated capacity and capital solutions that power economic growth, enterprise profitability and social transformation. ENCOT and Enclude signed a Cooperation agreement in October 2014 under the Hivos–HTF Agricultural Finance Expansion Program. The project stretching between Oct 2014 and September 2015 is intended to support expansion of ENCOT’s agricultural loan portfolio through the provision of capacity-building along product review & development, staff training and development of the organization’s MIS capacity.
BABYLOAN: Created in 2008, Babyloan whose priority has been to defend a social and inclusive form of microfinance acts as a platform for internet users to choose and fund projects of choice. It’s a France based organization, that partners with other institutions to extend lending, by hosting information between the lenders and clients. ENCOT and Babyloan entered a partnership in December 2015 and over 1,000 clients have already been impacted under this project. http://www.babyloan.org/en
